What Is A Workday Consultant?

• Gathers requirements and turns them into Workday configuration rather than a wish list.
• Builds and tests business processes, security groups, condition rules and notifications.
• Migrates data, runs validation cycles and manages parallel payroll runs where relevant.
• Builds integrations with payroll providers, finance systems, benefits vendors and identity platforms.
• Creates reports, dashboards and calculated fields people can rely on.
• Supports go-live, then optimises after it — the phase most programmes underestimate.

Most confusion about the role comes from lumping three different specialisms together.

• Functional consultant — owns a module family such as HCM, Payroll, Absence, Recruiting, Financials or Adaptive Planning, and is accountable for how it is configured.
• Technical / integration consultant — builds EIBs, Core Connectors and Studio integrations, plus reporting and Prism work.
• Programme or client-side lead — holds scope, decisions and the partner to account on your behalf.

Small changes usually need one specialist for a defined number of days. Implementations need all three.
