Workday consulting rates vary more by specialism and delivery history than by badge. This page sets out how rates are structured, what drives them, and how to buy consulting so you are paying for outcomes rather than attendance.

What's included

How Rates Are Structured

Most Workday consulting is bought one of four ways. Each suits a different kind of work.

  • Day rate (time and materials) — flexible, appropriate for advisory and undefined work, but it puts scope risk on you.
  • Fixed fee — right for defined deliverables such as a health check, security assessment or integration build.
  • Retained block — a monthly block of days for support and continuous improvement, priced below ad-hoc rates.
  • Statement of work — a full workstream or implementation with milestones and acceptance criteria.

How Rates Are Structured

Indicative Day Rates

  • Senior functional consultant (HCM, Payroll, Absence, Recruiting) — from GBP 750 per day.
  • Integration and Studio consultant — from GBP 750 per day; complex Studio work sits above this.
  • Adaptive Planning consultant — from GBP 750 per day.
  • Security and reporting specialist — from GBP 700 per day.
  • Test lead and test analyst — from GBP 700 per day.
  • Programme and client-side lead — quoted on engagement length, commonly part-time across a programme.

Blended rates apply on longer programmes, and retained blocks are discounted against ad-hoc rates. Rates are for UK and European delivery in English, remote with on-site days where useful.

Indicative Day Rates

What Moves A Rate

  • Certification plus production delivery history, not certification alone
  • Scarcity of the specialism — Studio, payroll for multiple countries and security redesign command more
  • Engagement length and predictability of the booking
  • Whether the consultant is client-side accountable or working within a partner plan
  • On-site requirements and travel

What Moves A Rate

Buying Consulting Well

  • Define the deliverable before choosing the commercial model
  • Use fixed fee wherever the outcome can be described in writing
  • Ask who is actually doing the work, and what they have taken to production
  • Agree knowledge transfer as a deliverable, not a courtesy
  • Review retained block usage quarterly and re-size it honestly
